About Us

A Movement, A Brand, A Story Told in Fabric - SHWSH Tribe

SHWSH is more than a brand. We’re a movement. We tell the rich stories of South Africa while empowering its people.

Our handcrafted items and accessories are made from the iconic shweshwe fabric, known for its intricate patterns, vibrant colours, and deep cultural roots. Every SHWSH creation is a tribute to the timeless artistry of shweshwe, blending traditional African heritage with contemporary design to create a piece as unique as its owner.

But SHWSH is also about creating opportunities. Each piece is crafted by unemployed women from disadvantaged communities. We’re helping them build brighter futures for themselves and their families, one stitch at a time.

When you choose SHWSH, you’re not just buying a bag, or an accessory. You’re investing in people, culture, and craftsmanship. You’re carrying with you a piece of Africa’s history and a story of resilience, hope, and creativity.

What We Do

At SHWSH, we transform traditional African fabrics - especially shweshwe - into bold, statements. Every design is curated to blend deep cultural symbolism with modern expression. This journey is not just about beauty. It’s about reclaiming identity, telling untold stories through texture, and building a community that wears their pride loudly.

Our Vision

To become a global movement that reshapes how African textiles are seen, worn and used every day. Our vision is to spark cultural confidence through fashion, where every item made by SHWSH becomes both a tribute to the past and a canvas for the future. We aim to sustain local craftsmanship while growing a community that supports ethical beauty that is rooted in heritage.

Our roots

SHWSH was founded by a South African mother who has watched her children, and countless South Africans, scatter across the globe. What started as a personal passion project to connect the diaspora to its roots is growing into a powerful fashion story that honours African tradition while evolving it for the modern era.
